Education

We are committed to education not only of our clients, but of our staff.

Continuing education courses are required for our doctors, who regularly attend seminars or veterinary conferences to keep up on the latest procedures and treatments.

We also encourage our technicians and receptionists to continually improve themselves. We have several Registered Veterinary Technicians on staff, and encourage all of our technicians to work towards this goal. Several of our employees have completed or are currently enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program at Shasta College.

Each semester we usually have one or two local high-school students working with us through the Shasta County Regional Occupational Program (ROP). They may earn school credit while working for us as kennel assistants. During their time, they can experience the detailed workings of the clinic and this may help them determine if veterinary medicine is a field they want to pursue as a career. Several of these students have returned to be hired as employees once their time in ROP is finished.

For the past two years, we have participated in an externship program, hosting upper-level veterinary students, allowing them to experience life in a "real world" practice.

Now, we have instituted an internship program. We are proud to have these doctors as members of our staff.

As new doctors, they will get the benefit of working with experienced professionals, in addition to providing a needed service. They will be our overnight doctors, staying in the clinic to assist with emergencies and to ensure that our hospitalized patients receive the best care possible.

We are very excited about this as we have not previously been able to have a doctor in the building overnight, every night.

This is just one way in which we are continually trying to expand and improve the services we offer as part of our goal of providing exceptional patient care.
